A YOUTH worker from Dursley is taking on a 100km challenge this month to help youth services in the area.

Kathleen Hanbury has accepted The Door youth project’s challenge to walk, run or cycle 100km during May to raise much needed funds to keep its services open.

Recently The Door team has been helping Cam and Dursley’s young people as they try to deal with the devastating loss of Josh Hall, 17, who passed away on April 16.

Kathleen, who co-ordinates The Door’s youth work in Cam and Dursley, said: “This has been a very devastating time and something the community as a whole has felt.

“The Door is continuing to work closely with Rednock School and the neighbour policing team in supporting young people and the community during this time. Our Youth Centres are now back open where young people can come to get support in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

“The young people that we have been working with over the last couple of weeks need to be praised for their efforts and resilience in organising vigils where young people could unite together in their grief and support each other as well as raising money together.

“They have shown that even in great tragedy they still love and respect the community they live in and want it to be a safer place for all.

“I am doing the 100k again this May to raise awareness of how important our services are to those that use them, and how we need support from the communities we work in to keep the provision going in this much needed time.”
