Stroud AC star Tom Mortimer has been called up to the senior Great Britain team for the European nations team event in Chorzow, Poland.

Britain are in the super league which sites above three lower league consisting of 42 counties.

Stroud AC coach Chris Brown said: “Tom is very excited by this opportunity and is hoping for a fast race and of course to finish as high up the field as he can to gain team points. He will also have half an eye on the Commonwealth Games qualification time for Birmingham next year, which he hopes will form part of his build up to the 2024 Olympics.

Mortimer has represented Great Britain U20s at the European and World Championships in the 5000m and at the European Cross County Championships. After winning the bronze medal in his debut at the the British Senior Championships last year he has had impressive victories on the road and in his first 5000m track race at the Manchester Grand Prix.

He won the 1500m at the Senior Home Nations Championships held at Loughborough University on Sunday, with a time of 3min 42.90s.

Mortimer will travel with the GB team to Poland on May 28.
