A Gloucestershire business selling scotch eggs has relaunched after being forced to close as a result of the Covid pandemic.

Cotswold Scotch Egg Company, based near Birdlip, was initially launched in March 2020 by Simon Clint and his wife Pip.

But with Simon working full time as an NHS surgeon and Pip as a radiographer, when the pandemic hit the business was no longer viable.

"The NHS imploded and I was called upon to do all sorts of duties to help where I could," said Simon.

"As a result we took the reluctant decision to close a few weeks later."

But the business was relaunched in April and appeared at Stroud Farmers' Market for the first time last month.

"We are fortunate to have a small holding and dreamt up the scotch egg business after getting so many compliments about our pork and eggs," said Simon.

"We are keen supporters of rare breed pigs and sheep and wanted a way to show people what slow growing meat tasted like.

"We also believe passionately about local food and have tried hard to ensure that as many of our ingredients as possible are local.

"The meat, eggs and herbs are from our farm, whilst the flour for the coating and the oil for frying are both produced within 15 miles of us.

"The scotch eggs are made by hand on the farm so we really are providing the people of Stroud a truly local product."

Cotswold Scotch Egg Company will be at Stroud Farmers' Market on the first and third Saturday of the month.
