A MEMBER of Gloucestershire Police's staff who almost died from Covid has donated over £3,000 to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to thank all those who treated him.

Haroon Kholwadia, from the Constabulary's ICT Department, donated the money raised by his colleagues to the hospital's intensive care unit as a way of giving back for all of the support that he received.

Haroon was sadly struck down by Covid whilst socially isolating at home towards the end of last year.

He spent three weeks in a coma, lost 20 kilograms in weight and very nearly lost his life.

In total £3,400 was raised and Haroon and his wife Mariam visited Gloucestershire Royal Hospital yesterday (Thursday 17 June) to hand over the money to the hospital's staff.

Haroon said: "Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chief Constable of Gloucestershire Constabulary and the Gloucestershire Police family for all their prayers, best wishes, support and donations to the ICU Charity.

"Also, a great thank you to my line manager, David Harker, who set-up the GoFundMe page which enabled Constabulary colleagues and members of the Muslim community to help me give back.

"To all the doctors, nurses, physios and anyone else involved in my recovery from COVID 19, I am eternally grateful for all you did for me.

"Finally I ask everyone in Gloucestershire to stay safe as Covid is still with us."

Haroon's wife Mariam also thanked everyone for their support and kindness saying: “I couldn’t have done it without the support around me.

"We want to give back and thank everyone on the ICU ward for their kindness and care."
