A BUSINESS community has brought in others from the local area for a day of activity at Poole’s Lighthouse.

The marketing and media training and learning community You Are The Media is partnering with Bournemouth and Poole College and Lewis-Manning Hospice Care on Thursday, October 7.

Mark Masters, who leads You Are The Media, said: “We work with Carina George and the apprenticeship team from Bournemouth & Poole College. During the morning, apprentices will take to the stage and present their aspirations and hopes for the future. This allows businesses who are thinking about an apprentice for their company, to start that conversation.

“Nicki Cluley, corporate partnerships fundraiser from Lewis-Manning had the idea of a fundraiser. During the evening we will show the original Karate Kid for an 80s night out in the theatre and every penny raised goes to the charity.”

The day will include the latest in the series of You Are The Media Online Offline events, which are a first for the UK with a simultaneous in-person and online show. People attend in person for lunch and then guests from around the UK and overseas join in via Zoom on the cinema screen.

The main guest for the October event is US author of Break The Wheel and host of the podcast Unthinkable, Jay Acunzo.

Carina George said: “Working together with You Are The Media helps Bournemouth And Poole College showcase tomorrow’s leading young talent. Bringing together businesses and apprentices in the same space helps everyone to become familiar with each other. Educating local businesses about apprenticeships and what to typically expect, whilst also giving the apprentices opportunities to interact with potential employers. Everyone is looking forward to it.”

Nicki Cluley said: “With a busy day of activity at Lighthouse, Poole, we’re looking forward to ending it with Karate Kid. It was up for people to vote for the underdog film they wanted and this won. It all ties in well with a busy autumn of activity. We are hugely grateful for this opportunity, given to us by Mark Masters and the YATM community.”
