When Toni Austin-Foley, co-owner of Idun Spirit in Gloucester, received a box of crystals from a local family in May, she knew immediately what to do with them.

The couple - who now live abroad - had discovered 15 crystals in their father’s attic following his death earlier this year, all individually wrapped in newspapers dating back to 1995.

Keen to support a local business, the couple gifted the impressive collection to Toni, wanting nothing in return.

Knowing that the gentleman in question had received end-of-life care from Longfield Community Hospice in Minchinhampton, Toni decided to auction the crystals, and donate all proceeds to Longfield.

“The box contained some really unique pieces,” said Toni, who, along with wife Libby, organised the auction event for 15th September, with tickets being sold online and in-store.

The auction was a resounding success and raised an impressive £2,105 for Longfield.

The money will help to fund vital services for people across Gloucestershire with life-limiting conditions, and support their loved ones and carers too.

Toni was thrilled by the auction’s success: “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to raise so much money for a charity that gives so much.

"I’m sure the gentleman who owned them would be thrilled to know that his unique crystal collection has helped repay Longfield for the amazing care he received.”

Rachel Jones, Head of Fundraising and Marketing for Longfield said: “We’re truly blown away by this amazing amount; what a unique way of raising funds for us! It will help so many people across Gloucestershire during difficult times and make such a difference.”
