A LOOSE dog attacked a pony being ridden by a child in Berkeley.

The incident happened in Damery Lane on Wednesday at 6pm.

The dog is described as a dark brindle, big athletic looking dog possibly a Mastiff cross and was wearing a leather studded collar.

The dog did not appear to be with an owner.

People with information about the incident or the dog are asked to get in touch with the police or Stroud District Council's Animal Welfare Service.

A spokeswoman for the Animal Welfare Service said: "The pony received injuries which have been treated and thankfully both the pony and child are OK, although obviously shaken.

"If you were in the area or have any information about this dog and possible owner, please contact either ourselves or the police."
