PLANS are in place for a new a bistro in Stroud High Street.

The owners of Brody’s Takeout which recently closed in the Five Valleys Shopping Centre want to open a stylish new restaurant and bar at the site of former newsagents McColl's.

They have submitted proposals to Stroud District Council for a premises licence and are aiming to be open by around November 15.

The shopping centre unit closed last month as the family run business wanted to move to a larger premises.

In the application they state: "We are opening a bistro bar providing the public with a sit down restaurant, supplying top quality meat sourced from a local butchers. We are making a stylish bar where all alcohol will be consumed on the premises."

Speaking to the SNJ, co-owner Tracey Griffiths said: “We are hoping to bring something different to the High Street.

“We have had a few setbacks but we are getting on the right track now."

"Everything else will just fall into place. We just want it to be right."

"It is very family orientated and we will try to give jobs to local people,” said Tracey.

The new venue will offer seating, a bar and a wider menu and they want to make it clear they will be offering more than the fast food snacks which were available at the previous unit.

Meat will sourced by local butcher Waghornes which is at the shopping centre and the owners want to try and give the place more of a rustic feel.

Reaction so far has been positive, said Tracey.

“We have spoken to a few of the locals. They have stopped at the door and they all seem to be really excited,” she said.

“People were disappointed when we announced that we had left the previous place."

The restaurant should be open in time for Christmas and they are happy to pre-book tables for festive parties.

“It’s not just going to be burgers although we are looking to introduce a bigger one as well,” said Tracey's daughter Paige, another of the co-owners.

“We also want to make it a place for families."

The owners have said that they hope to have the menus sorted and printed over the next few weeks which will be on their Facebook page soon.

They also hope to try different things in their new place such as coffee mornings, family-orientated meals and they are also on the lookout to recruit more staff.

The aim is to open between 8am and 11pm every day.
