AFTER being granted a court extension to continue questioning a man arrested on suspicion of murder in Stonehouse, police have issued a fresh update on the situation. 

"The arrested man remains in custody and the investigation is continuing," said a spokesperson. 

Overnight on Sunday, Police were called to a property on Bath Road where it was reported that a woman had been injured. 

Paramedics attended and the woman, aged in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

After arresting a 53-year-old man from Cheltenham on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident, police then issued a further update yesterday.

A statement from Gloucestershire Constabulary read that: "The 53-year-old from Cheltenham will now remain in police custody for an additional 36 hours following his arrest in connection with the death of a woman in Stonehouse."

"Officers from the Major Crime Investigation Team are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and anyone with information which could assist is asked to contact police."
