The hike in energy prices isn't just affecting ordinary people and families, but it's also had a dramatic affect on sports teams with one local rugby club feeling the pinch.

Speaking to BBC Radio Wiltshire, Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club's chairman Chris Elias revealed that the cost of keeping his floodlights on and electricity running had doubled this year.

"We’ve just had our annual review of our energy prices, we use British Gas for our electricity, and the price there has gone up 18p to 33p per kilowatt hour, so that’s almost doubled, so our average running cost is about £1000 a month by the time you’ve paid for the floodlights etc, so that’s going to have an absolutely huge impact.

"A normal bill when the club is active throughout the winter with the floodlights going on two pitches as well, so six days of the week, yeah, it’s £1000 a month that’s going to increase by. "

He added that the club would be forced to either cut costs or find ways to bring new revenue in, but the ongoing pandemic has severely impacted his income.
