A PROMINENT Cotswolds roadside inn near Stroud has been placed on the market for £925,000.

The Fostons Ash Inn, believed to have been named after a former turnpike keeper, was built around 1800.

The grade II listed property still holds its traditional construction, containing Cotswolds stone and pitched stone slate roof.

The popular establishment has traded as an independent pub, bar and restaurant with 80 covers and has a basement beer cellar, enclosed children’s play area, and four new horse corrals.

It also includes owner’s accommodation containing a two-bedroom flat, with a further one-bedroom flat on the upper floors which has been used for letting purposes.

The present owners bought the inn back in 2018 as a new business venture and in responding to the Covid pandemic, have made substantial improvements to both the property and the level of service, by expanding the outside space significantly, polishing its presentation and focusing on marketing, using the expertise they have in their main profession Hine Marketing to continue to grow the business.

The vendor commented: “We are very proud to have developed the Fostons Ash Inn into the much-loved establishment it is today. The property is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is well-known to many.

"We have been very fortunate to have been nominated for awards such as GLA Pub of the year 2019 and CotswoIds Life Food and Drink 2019.

"It has been a wonderful experience and after three years, we have now decided to focus our attention to other business opportunities outside the hospitality sector.”

Located between Cheltenham, Gloucester and Stroud, The Fostons Ash has a large surrounding population and a high customer footfall, making the inn a very successful business in the heart of the Cotswolds.

Peter Brunt, from Colliers’ Hotels Agency team said: “The Fostons Inn is an attractive building, boasting quintessentially British charm in the countryside.

"The business has been improved greatly over the last few years and would suit private owners who would drive the business personally and appreciate not only the restaurant and bar space, but the additional income that can be derived from the second flat.”
