THE OWNER of a cafe in Stroud has shared their  disappointment regarding their zero star hygiene rating.

The Lock Keeper's Cafe, in Wallbridge, Stroud, was given the minimum score after assessment on February 23, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

It is only the second establishment across Stroud to receive the lowest possible score.

You can see what feedback it received here.

"Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your article on our recent food inspection," said owner Harry Counsell.

"We were incredibly disappointed to receive the rating in February, after being awarded a 4-star rating only 6 months previously and where all structural aspects were deemed suitable.

"We had obviously taken our eye off the ball and we had let our usual high standards fall below an acceptable level.

"This is no excuse, and we are deeply saddened by the result.

"We have retrained the staff and adjusted our menu accordingly, so that all the issues regarding staff procedures and working practices that were noted have now been addressed.

"The structural side of the report have been remedied to the best of our ability and we are confident that we have met the requirements that were recommended by the council.

"We take our responsibility to maintain a safe environment for all our customers very seriously, and we are confident that we have rectified all points that were made in the report.

"We are now awaiting a revisit so that we can ensure our customers that we are back to our normal high standards of food safety at The Lock Keepers Cafe."
