DEDICATED college students were recognised at an awards ceremony attended by Stroud's MP.

Siobhan Baillie handed out end of term awards on Friday to construction students at SGS College’s prize giving ceremony.

Prizes were given to students who improved the most in each subject, the overall best student in each skills discipline, and the top students overall for the year.

Ms Baillie presented prizes to Level 1 and Level 2 students and attended the event with SGS principal Sara-Jane Watkins, learning area manager for construction David Quinton and department heads from across the construction syllabus.

Many of the level 1 students will return to the college next year while level 2 are now ready to enter employment or apprenticeships. Some could not attend because they were already at work.

Ms Baillie said: “It was such an honour to join the students and the college to celebrate their success.

"It has been a tough few years with disruption to learning due to the pandemic so in many ways, these skilled workers deserve even more praise than ever."

David Quinton, learning area manager at SGS added: “It was great to see so many young people who have succeeded with their qualifications who have been through so much over the past few years.

“The construction team here, and the wider college as a whole, do such a fantastic job giving our young people the skills and traits they need to achieve in life, it’s a joy to be part of this group of staff.

“We thank Siobhan for her continued support, it means so much to the team at SGS Stroud.”
