A FOOTBALL CLUB in Stroud has folded after more than 70 years.
Despite a late recruitment drive, Cashes Green FC has folded ahead of the new season.
Members of Cashes Green FC had sent out a plea for new players in a desperate bid to save the historic club.
In recent weeks the first team squad – the only side left – had 11 players committed before the new season.
The club - which was due to celebrate its 75th anniversary next year - has a rich history, including winning the County Cup in the 1956/57 season.
"It is with deep regret that we have decided to fold as a club after 74 years of existence," read a statement on the club's social media page.

Unfortunately, our recent recruitment drive was unsuccessful but we would like to thank those who helped to share these messages.
"It was great battling with lots of clubs over the years and we wish them all well for the future."
