COMEDY stars got a real kick out of visiting an animal sanctuary in Stroud.

Charlie and Paul Cooper from BBC’s This Country visited Nailsworth Donkey Sanctuary yesterday (Thursday).

Dawn Cockell, owner of the sanctuary, said the stars were ‘truly wonderful’ - in fact they are great supporters of the charity in Newmarket Road.

She said: “The gang from This Country were truly wonderful and lovely with my husband Tim, who has Parkinson's and lewy body dementia.”

Why did Charlie visit?

Charlie, 33, recently adopted one of the sanctuary’s donkeys, Rollo, last year and it was the first time he had met her.

Rollo, who is 22, has been in Nailsworth at the sanctuary for around six years.

Nailsworth Donkey Sanctuary said in a statement on Facebook: “Look who came to visit our donks today, Charlie Cooper and family from the TV programme This Country, what lovely people.

“Sadly I couldn't stay long as I had to go visit my mum in hospital but thank you all for being so kind and understanding."
