THERE was a special meet up of bikers and lifeboat volunteers when members of a motorcycle group presented an 'incredible donation' of £1,045 to a Wirral RNLI station.

Riders from Chester-based BXB/Bretton Motorcycles visited Hoylake Lifeboat station on April 21. The group raises funds for good causes each year at its charity Christmas biker party, which was started over 23 years ago by Paul Sinkinson.

In recent years, the party has raised funds in memory of Paul’s best friend Lee Brooker, who had helped organise the events, which have since been renamed BXB Brooker’s Xmas Bash - Lee’s wife Althea has also stepped into his boots in supporting the planning.

This year’s fundraising efforts also remembered a fellow biker, Terry.

Hoylake RNLI Coxswain Howie Owen said: "We can’t thank everyone enough who donated to support the work of our volunteer crew.

"Every penny helps ensure they have the training and equipment they need to face all weathers when saving lives.

"With Lee and Terry’s names on the hull of an RNLI lifeboat on our coast, their memory will launch with that station’s crew every time there is someone in distress who needs help at sea.’

The RNLI’s Launch a Memory programme provides supporters with an opportunity to remember or celebrate a loved one by adding their name to an all-weather lifeboat, with the next lifeboat recently confirmed as Exmouth RNLI's Shannon class.
