IT has been announced that a garden centre near Stonehouse could close at the end of this year.
Dobbies Garden Centre (Gloucester) - located in Bath Road, Haresfield - is one of the 17 stores across the UK affected as part of a “restructuring plan” by the brand.
Officials say if the plan is approved, the Haresfield store will close by the end of the year.
It is understood this would impact eight full time and 35 part time roles.
Altogether, Dobbies will close 11 of its main larger sites and six of the Little Dobbies stores around the UK.
This also includes the Cheltenham Little Dobbies store located in the Promenade which opened in April last year.
Dobbies statement
A Dobbies spokesperson said: "We are implementing a restructuring plan to address historically uneconomical rent costs and to create a strong platform to return our business to profitability, access future investment, and to ensure a sustainable, long-term future for Dobbies.
"We are sorry to confirm that this includes the closure of our Gloucester store and Cheltenham little dobbies.
"Subject to the Restructuring Plan being approved, we expect the Gloucester store to cease trading by the end of the year and Cheltenham little dobbies to cease trading by the end of November.
"Until that time, both stores will remain open as usual.”
The Haresfield centre - which is located near junction 14 of the M5 - has a Waitrose food hall and The Works.
Dating back to 1975, the centre - previously known Blooms of Gloucester - was originally owned by the Jardinerie chain.
It was then taken over by Blooms which in turn was taken over by Wyevale's.
The building itself was completely rebuilt in 2005.
