THE REASON why police swooped into Stroud town centre yesterday has been revealed.
Multiple officers and several cars were spotted outside the Sub Rooms forecourt yesterday amid an ongoing incident.
The reason why the police were there has now been revealed.
A police spokesperson said: "We were called to High Street in Stroud at 2.40pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 1) after it was reported that a woman had stolen several hundred pounds worth of items from a shop.
"Officers attended the shop but the woman had already left so searches were conducted in the area.
"A 34-year-old woman was located nearby and arrested on suspicion of shoplifting.
"It was established that the woman was wanted by another police force so she was remanded into custody."
