THE Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home could win a £50,000 grant.
The rescue centre has been shortlisted as one of five finalists for Petplan Charitable Trust UK’s first ever People’s Grant.
The winner will be entirely decided by a public vote.
Securing the £50,000 grant would transform the charity's capacity for supporting vulnerable pets and their owners across the area.
The centre plans on using the money to purchase a dedicated electric van to help in delivering essential services to pets in need and responding to emergencies quicker.
Every day, the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home works with pet owners facing complex and often challenging circumstances, including financial hardship, mental health struggles and situations involving domestic abuse.
These pressures can make it difficult to access essential veterinary care, putting pets at risk of neglect, illness, or separation from their owners.
The proposed vehicle would enable the charity to expand its outreach services, bringing care directly into communities through local clinics held in accessible settings.
These clinics provide a wide range of essential services, including: free health checks; parasite treatment; microchipping; welfare advice, and neutering help and advice.
These services are often a lifeline for pet owners who otherwise would go without support.
The van would also provide critical support in emergency situations, as it will enable safe transport for animals to veterinary appointments or temporary foster homes via their Pet Safe Space service.
It will also assist in distributing pet food to food bank collection points.
By ensuring access to both preventative care and rapid response support, the charity seeks to prevent crises from worsening, aiming to keep more pets with their loving families.
The winner of the People's Grant Initiative is now in the hands of the public.
