DRIVERS in the Stroud district face a series of short-term and longer-running road closures, with work scheduled in Nailsworth, Leonard Stanley, Chalford and Minchinhampton.

In Nailsworth, Dark Lane will be shut between Powis Court and Windsmeet on Thursday, August 6 and Friday, August 7 for Severn Trent Water works.

Access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained, with diversions signed on site.

Spring Hill in Nailsworth will also be closed on Thursday, August 6, but only between 9.30am and 3.30pm, for overhead cabling works; that closure runs from Springhill Crescent to Old Market.

On the same day, Bath Road in Leonard Stanley will be closed from 8am to 5pm for Severn Trent Water works.

The affected stretch runs from outside Tanney Cottages to the rear of 8 Wesley Road. Again, pedestrian and emergency access will be kept open and an alternative route will be signposted.

In Chalford, a series of short sections around France Corner, the Duke of York pub, Pudney Pie Lane and Randalls Green are already closed for ducting installation and associated parking restrictions. That work began on August 3 and is due to continue until Friday, August 7, with no waiting, stopping or loading permitted while the scheme is under way.

The largest programme will affect Minchinhampton parish from Monday, August 17.

Several rural routes will be closed in phases for gas mains replacement, including New Road to Longford Lane between Longford Mills and Forwood, Longfords Mill, Forwood, Well Hill, Friday Street between Market Square and Tetbury Street, and Tetbury Street between Friday Street and Tobacconist Road.

The closures may be implemented in any order or at the same time, with all work expected to finish by December 4.

Gloucestershire County Council says all schemes will retain pedestrian and emergency access, with diversions marked locally.
