A NATIONAL chain has opened a new branch at a key canalside location in Stroud.
Toolstation, a trade supplier, has now moved into Units 1 and 2 at the Lower Wharf Industrial Estate, Wallbridge.
Toolstation Ltd, a nationwide subsidiary of Travis Perkins, specialises in power tools, hand tools, fixings, decorating materials, heating and electrical supplies, workwear, and other building and DIY products.
The new branch, which claims it is one of the largest suppliers to the UK's building and construction industry, said it would employ between five and eight full-time equivalent staff, with no more than four on site at any one time, according to planning documents.
A planning document previously submitted to Stroud District Council stated: "Units 1 and 2 are interlinked two-storey commercial/employment units.
"The units are accessed from the internal estate road serving Lower Wharf Industrial Estate, with vehicular access taken directly from Bath Road."
"The site layout provides a clearly defined hard-standing forecourt in front of the units, allowing for convenient turning and manoeuvring within the estate."
No external alterations were proposed as part of the application.
The site was previously occupied by Dougfield Plumbing Supplies until 2025.
The proposed opening hours for the new Toolstation branch are Monday to Saturday from 7am to 8pm, and Sundays from 9am to 5pm.
The parking plan designated 14 spaces exclusively for Toolstation customers, reflecting the current arrangement.
The industrial estate is located close to Stroud town centre and is surrounded by other business and industrial premises, as well as some residential areas.
The planning statement highlighted the benefits of the new branch.
It added: "The proposal will bring the currently vacant units back into beneficial use.
"Granting planning permission will secure the continued delivery of employment floorspace at this established industrial location and will result in the creation of between five and eight full-time equivalent jobs, the majority of which are anticipated to be recruited locally."
The new branch is now open to both trade and retail customers.
