A STRETCH of a major Stroud route is set to close for two days next week.
The closure at Stratford Road will be in effect from the Tesco roundabout to the roundabout at the entrance to Stratford Park on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6, from 7am to 6pm each day.
Specialist contractors will carry out work on trees overhanging the road as well as detailed inspections of significant specimens within the park.
Angela Gillingham, head of community services for Stroud District Council, said: "Stratford Park is home to some of the finest and most significant mature trees in the district.
"Regular inspections and maintenance are essential to ensure the long-term health of these trees and the safety of park visitors and road users.

"We appreciate the disruption this temporary road closure may cause and would like to thank residents and motorists for their patience and understanding while these important works are carried out."
The works have been approved through the planning process and are necessary because the trees are located in a conservation area.
The council said the closure has been scheduled for a weekend to minimise disruption to weekday traffic.
During the closure, drivers will only be able to access Stratford Park, Active Lifestyles Stroud, and The Museum in the Park from the Paganhill direction.
Stratford Park covers 56 acres and is managed by Stroud District Council.
It contains more than 800 mature trees, including species such as Cedar of Lebanon, Monkey Puzzle, Wellingtonia, and Indian Bean Tree.
The upcoming works are intended to help preserve the park’s trees for future generations and ensure the safety of both park visitors and road users.
Diversion signage will be in place throughout the closure, and residents are advised to plan journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.
