A NEW sauna and recovery space is opening soon in Stroud town centre.

The Heat Exchange, located at the former Access Bike unit in John Street, says it aims to offer more than just hot and cold therapy.

The concept blends sauna, cold-water immersion, recovery, ritual and community in an environment designed to help visitors reset, restore and reconnect.

Co-founders Chris Barker & Yuliya Poberezhnik believe that there is growing demand for alternative social spaces—places without alcohol, focused on wellbeing, relaxation and genuine connection.

The team says it has prioritised the use of premium, ecological materials, aiming to minimise off-gassing and create a space where guests can breathe deeply and relax.

Work is also underway on a large garden area, with plans for a wood-fired sauna, hot tub and communal outdoor space for rest and connection between heat and cold sessions.

Co-founder Yuliy, who has spent alongside years of teaching yoga, mindfulness and embodied wellbeing, says that creating environments that support presence, nervous-system regulation, connection and belonging has always been central to her work.

Co-founder Chris meanwhile has more than 25 years’ experience in carpentry and construction, from film sets and restaurants to bespoke furniture and premium sauna builds.

His background as a professional snowboarder and instructor, surfer and long-distance runner has shaped his understanding of physical recovery, resilience and the importance of supportive environments.

The team say their philosophy is reflected in both the design and the overall experience.

They said: "Built around the transformative power of heat, cold, ritual and shared experience, we are creating a space where wellbeing, recovery and human connection come together.

"Inspired by our love of sauna and community, The Heat Exchange Sauna is being built as an intentional and inclusive space in the heart of Stroud — a place where people can step away from the demands of everyday life, slow down, be present and feel part of something meaningful."
