A THOUGHT-provoking venture is to open in Stroud town centre.

The Open Book, located along London Road next to Emmaus, aims to offer a welcoming space for reading, research and gatherings.

The non-commercial library will house a collection of more than 5,000 books, including the John Marjoram Book Collection, named in memory of a close friend of the project.

A spokesperson for the project said: ""Here, you'll be able to peacefully read books, consult the library, do your own research, listen to ClearAir.fm and great music – or just come in for a chat."

The library is also intended to serve as a research hub and community meeting space.

Book categories healing, meditation and massage, psychoanalysis and technology/technocracy.

An interim opening event was held on Saturday, September 12, at 7pm, featuring performer lain Smith, a tour of the space and a group discussion about its future use.
