A FORMER Stroud resident has published her debut novel, drawing on her experiences as an artist in Norway.

Carol Baxendale’s White Space was published by Cinnamon Press on August 12.

Baxendale grew up on the outskirts of Stroud, attended school in the area and later studied Fine Art on the degree course in Cheltenham.

She now lives in Norwich and has previously published short stories.

The novel grew from her work teaching art at degree level and memories of a Norwegian Government scholarship she received in her thirties.

White Space follows Karen, who has taken photographs since childhood, 'showing off her Anglo-Norwegian lifestyle'.

She develops a close relationship with Steven, a mature student and the pair travel from Norwich to an art school in Oslo on a student exchange.

Set between Norwich and northern Norway, the psychological drama explores family conflict, identity and the consequences of unresolved past experiences.

White Space was shortlisted for the Cinnamon Press literature award in 2024.

It is available from Cinnamon Press, priced at £12.99.
