STUART Maynard has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to become Forest Green Rovers’ next head coach.
The current York City boss is listed at 2/1 for the job, according to BettingOdds.com, with Luke Williams, formerly of Peterborough United and Adam Hinshelwood of Worthing both close behind at 4/1.
Maynard enjoyed a successful spell at York City, guiding the club back to the Football League after a decade away.
His side won the National League title with a club-record 108 points, securing promotion in dramatic fashion and earning widespread praise from supporters before his departure earlier this year.
Michael Duff, who was recently let go at Wycombe Wanderers, joins Rob Edwards, Darren Ferguson, Paul Hurst, and current Walsall boss Lee Grant at 8/1.
On Tuesday Dale Vince, chair of Forest Green Rovers, said: "We have given Robbie Savage permission to speak to Peterborough.
"He wanted to leave the club for personal reasons, reasons which we understand and respect.
"He’s been offered the job, and we’re now in a negotiation with Peterborough on the terms.
"We wish Robbie the very best."
Savage was not in charge for Forest Green’s fixture against Wealdstone on Wednesday.
He was last on the touchline during Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Sutton United, where his side twice let slip a two-goal lead and conceded a stoppage-time equaliser despite playing with 10 men.
