A CHARMING Worcestershire village has become well known for its links to one of Britain’s longest-running radio programmes, but do you know how to pronounce its name?

Inkberrow, nestled between Worcester, Redditch, and Alcester, is widely believed to have inspired the fictional village of Ambridge in BBC Radio 4's The Archers.

But for those who have only ever seen Inkberrow written down, the Worcestershire place name might leave them wondering how exactly it should be said.

How do I pronounce Inkberrow?

The village is pronounced roughly "INGK-ber-oh", rather than treating the ending like the word "borrow".

The Worcestershire village is widely regarded as one of the inspirations for Ambridge, the fictional setting of the long-running radio soap.

But one thing is for sure, the pub in the fictional village of Ambridge is based on Inkberrow's The Old Bull.

The pub still features Archers memorabilia across its walls, including pictures of the cast visiting and signed scripts.

Previously speaking to the Worcester News, parish councillor Jane Neal said: "It is based on Inkberrow according to tradition - we do find that things that happen in the village suddenly appear in the script!"

But Inkberrow is more than its famous fictional counterpart.

What makes Inkberrow so special?

The village has pubs, a shop, a church, a village hall and sporting facilities, while residents previously praised its strong community spirit.

It also has picturesque outdoor spaces, including Inkberrow Millennium Green, an eight-acre public open space with a medieval moat and fishpond, wildflowers, and fruit trees.

Whether visitors arrive as fans of The Archers, to enjoy a country walk, or simply to see the real-life village behind the famous connection, Inkberrow still has plenty to offer.
