JACQUELINE Peachey fraudulently cashed cheques worth more than £5,000 while working in the accounts department at Miniveyor Products Ltd in Tetbury, a court heard.

Theresa Perry, prosecuting at Stroud Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 11, described how Peachey made unlawful gains at the company’s expense on four occasions between April 1 and September 25 last year.

The discrepancies were unveiled by Peachey’s successor in her role, who discovered that money owed to Cotswold District Council had not been paid.

Liz Highams, defending, said Peachey, 44, who suffers from ME and is a full-time carer for her elderly parents, was ‘very regretful’ of her actions.

She also stressed that the money was not used to buy alcohol or drugs, or to fund any kind of ‘extravagant lifestyle’.

Peachey, of Burma Road, Nailsworth, admitted four counts of fraud by false representation and was given a three year conditional discharge, reduced to two for her early guilty plea, and ordered to pay £385 compensation.
