ROY Carter was caught drink driving after he drove from Coaley Peak near Stroud without his lights on, a court heard.
Carter, 72, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at Stroud Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, August 25.
Prosecutor Theresa Perry said police were patrolling near the beauty spot at 9.30pm on Saturday, July 31 when they saw a car being driven out of the car park with no lights on.
"The car was being driven erratically so they pulled it over," she said.
A test revealed that Carter had 58 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 35 microgrammes.
Carter, who was not represented, said he had been drinking at lunchtime and did not realise he would still be over the limit.
He was banned from driving for 16 months.
Carter, of Chippenham Road, Lyneham, Wiltshire, was fined £165, ordered to pay £85 costs plus £15 victim surcharge.
