CHRISTOFFER Phillips was witnessed by police punching a man to the side of the head following a night out, a court heard.

Stroud Magistrates’ Court was told today, Wednesday, September 8, how Phillips, 21, of Bowbridge Lock, Stroud, was seen pushing a man repeatedly in Russell Street in Stroud town centre before throwing the punch around 3am on Sunday, July 25.

Defending himself, Phillips claimed the attack was provoked by an argument the victim had with his former girlfriend and because he had been drinking heavily while on anti-depressants.

He also said he has since cut out drinking and socialising almost entirely.

Phillips admitted a charge of battery and was given a community order with a home curfew until October 5.

He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation and costs of £60.
