SHANE Francis admitted attempting to steal two bottles of Bacardi rum worth £32 from a supermarket at Stroud Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 8.
The court heard how a plain-clothes police officer saw Francis concealing the bottles under his coat in the Stroud branch of Waitrose before attempting to leave the store around 6pm on August 13.
Defending himself in court, Francis, 38, of Barton End, Horsley, said he planned to sell the drinks to pay electrical costs for his partner and her young child.
He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay reduced costs of £40.
