HUGO Fry stole two kitchen knives from a house and then ran down Cashes Green Road in Stroud wielding them at two men, a court heard.

Fry, aged 32 of Hyett Road, Cainscross, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a knife, one of using threatening words or behaviour and burglary at Stroud Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 22.

Prosecutor Sharon Green explained that the incidents occurred while Fry was under the influence of alcohol at 12.45am on Sunday, August 22.

"It was after having an altercation with two men that Fry attempted to gain entry to a house in Bridge Street," she said.

"Fry pushed past the owner and went to the kitchen where he took two kitchen knives.

"The owner describes him as an associate and past neighbour but said he did not allow him access."

Ms Green explained that Fry then found the two men with whom he had an altercation and chased them down the street.

"A witness saw Fry with the knives outstretched - the blades were about eight to ten inches long," she said.

"Fry later told police he wanted to scare the men but did not intend to hurt anyone.

"The witness also told police she saw Fry grab another man around the neck and point the knife near his face."

Defending, Nick Cooper said Fry had pleaded guilty on the basis that the man he grabbed around the neck was a friend and they were just having a 'friendly scuffle'.

"There was no attempt to cause that person violence," he said.

Magistrates felt their sentencing powers were insufficient and sent the case to Gloucester Crown Court for sentencing.

Fry will appear again on Wednesday, October 13.
