MARK Buchanan dodged traffic and pedestrians in Stonehouse High Street when he fled from police at high speed on an off-road motorcycle, a court heard.

Buchanan, aged 27, of Gibson Close, Stroud, admitted four charges of driving without due care and attention, without insurance, without an MOT certificate and failing to stop for police when he appeared at Stroud Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 29.

Heidi Price, prosecuting, explained how officers spotted Buchanan riding without registration plates and ordered him to pull over around 11.45am on August 8.

He briefly turned his head before accelerating at high speed and ‘swerving in and out of traffic’ in a bid to escape before running a red light at a pedestrian crossing.

Officers decided to give up the chase for safety reasons but later found Buchanan stood beside the motorcycle near Ebley Mill and arrested him.

Defending himself, Buchanan said: "I have nothing to say – I pled guilty and I am guilty."

He was given nine points on his licence and ordered to pay a £100 fine with £40 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
