A MAN was caught with cocaine in his pocket after he was arrested for assaulting two clubbers, a court heard.

Prosecuting at Stroud Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 31, Sharon Jomaa said the assaults were completely unprovoked.

"Holmes was involved in an altercation when out drinking in Stroud on Saturday, August 6," she said.

"He had walked away from the two men following an argument and then rushed back and punched each of them in the face.

"One of them tried to get up and was punched again by Holmes.

"After finding 0.6 grams of cocaine on him police searched his home and found two bags of cannabis."

Benjamin Holmes, aged 23, of Home Orchard, Ebley, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault, one charge of possessing cocaine and another of possessing cannabis.

Representing himself, Holmes said alcohol makes him aggressive and he had already taken steps to prevent it happening again by not drinking and not going out in Stroud any more.

He said also that he had become employed since the incident.

Holmes was ordered to pay £100 compensation to each of his two victims and given a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs.
