RYAN McGeary punched a man in the side of the head after his cousin was approached by three friends on a night out in Stroud, a court was told.

He was later chased up High Street by one of the trio and assaulted himself following the incident around 2am on August 27.

Speaking at Stroud Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 14, defender Leo Goatley said McGeary, who admitted the public order charge of using threatening behaviour, lashed out in fear of his cousin’s safety.

McGeary, aged 20, of Albert Road, Brimscombe, was fined £125 with £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
