Leonard Stanley Wine Circle celebrate Burns night

THE first meeting of the year was well attended as all our members always enjoy the traditional Burns night supper.

Chairman Eric welcomed everyone and wished Ann Connett a very Happy Birthday.

We sat down to nicely laid out tables, complete with pots of heather and bottles of wine.

With Scottish music playing to get us in the mood, the haggis was walked around the room by Bob Britton accompanied by Andy Gunn, both resplendent in their Scottish national dress to the clapping of members.

Bob then addressed the haggis and cut it up with much vigour with his Skian Dubh (a bayonet sword).

We all then tucked into delicious home made leek and potato soup, followed by the traditional haggis, neaps and potatoes.

Not a crumb was left and some even managed to find room for seconds.

Last but not least we enjoyed the wonderful array of assorted puddings, again some had seconds – all washed down of course with wine and not forgetting whisky as it was a celebration of Robbie Burns.

A big thank you to the members in the kitchen who worked so hard to produce this always enjoyed meal and to the members who made the puddings.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, February 28, at 7.30pm in the village hall, when Michael Lazarus will talk on Hypnotherapy – so watch out!
