Eastcombe WI with Yeoman of the Guard by Shaun McCormack
BUSINESS matters for the Institute, and forthcoming events and projects were dealt with, and, following a refreshment break, we were launched into the domain of a Yeoman of the Guard by Shaun McCormack.
Shaun recanted the fascinating history of the Yeomen of the Guard, founded in 1485 by Henry VII for the safeguarding of the Sovereign in perpetuity.
Hilarious tales of what transpires in order to uphold the standards and honour of the Yeomen in their quest to fulfil their duties.
From physical protection, bed-making, bed-hanging and food tasting (for poisons!) of old - to rugby tackling streakers, or duty at NFWI Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace – the Yeomen of the Guard consists of committed personnel who bravely and honourably have served their country, and continue with commitment and pride, albeit now predominantly in a ceremonial manner, to serve and protect our Sovereign.
