Cainscross WI's AGM and a talk about the Cotswold Playhouse

WE MET for our AGM in early November with only one apology from Dot Brunning.

Hopefully Dot will be well enough to join us again soon.

We also welcomed a couple of visitors.

We thanked Pam Elliott for her very pretty table flowers, arranged in a little decorated jug, comprising dark red salvia, astrantia and yellow chrysanthemums.

Doreen, as president, opened the meeting with the singing of Jerusalem and read her report.

Linda, as treasurer, then updated us on the financial statement.

All three officers agreed to stand again and were proposed en bloc by Rowena Eccles and seconded by Kate.

We then discussed more arrangements for the forthcoming Christmas Party for which booking is necessary.

With business concluded, we welcomed Mr Patrick Howell, Chairman of the Cotswold Players, who gave us his illustrated talk about the Cotswold Playhouse.

Patrick gave a very interesting talk about the Playhouse, which was founded in 1911 by Constance Smedley and her husband Maxwell Armfield.

The Players have won numerous awards for their own productions and also welcome many other Touring Companies to perform at the Playhouse.

I have been lucky enough to visit the Playhouse many times and have spent many enjoyable evenings there.

The evening finished with the raffle, refreshments and the winners of the monthly competition announced as:-

First - Mary Jarrett

Second - Margaret Adams

As already mentioned the Christmas Party needs pre-booking and will take place, as usual, at St Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross at 7pm on Tuesday, December 4.

The first meeting of January 2019, will take place again at St Matthew’s Church Hall at 7.15pm on Tuesday, January 8, when new members/visitors will be very welcome to join us for a Social Evening.
