Cainscross WI's new year meeting

CAINSCROSS WI met a week later than usual, in view of the new year holiday.

We welcomed most members back, apart from apologies from Georgie who is poorly and we wish her a speedy recovery.

We also welcomed four new members to the group which is great and also had a visitor join us for the evening.

Val was thanked for her pretty table flowers which included delightful pansies and looked very cheerful to welcome the new year.

After the singing of Jerusalem, and treasurer Linda updating us on the finances, we discussed some correspondence and literature received.

June has, once again, offered to be our delegate at the forthcoming council meeting in March which will be held at the Cheltenham Town Hall.

The speakers at this meeting are always very good ones.

Val thanked us all for the lovely Christmas party we enjoyed back in December and Linda was kept busy writing receipts for the subscription payments received.

With business concluded, some members carried on with their knitting and craft projects they had underway and most members completed a quiz on sweets and chocolates which was set for us by president Doreen.

The first place winners with 23 out of 24 points were June Bendall, Thelma Wheldon and Mary Jarrett

Apart from this, it was lovely to have a chat and social time including time to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee to help the ‘thinking caps’.

Our next meeting is due to take place as usual in St Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross, on Tuesday. February 5, starting at 7.15pm.

For this meeting we will welcome Mr Chris Ames and his talk on Freemasons.

Husbands or partners are also welcome to join us on this occasion.

The monthly competition will be for a valentine gift which can take the form of a card or present of any medium.

This will be followed on Tuesday, March 5, by a visit from Beth of Sue Ryder who will acquaint us with the workings of that society.

Visitors or new members would be made most welcome at either of the above meetings and more details, if needed, are available from 01453 762812.
