Rector looking to boost wedding business

LOCAL Rector Revd. Canon Fr. John Ward is hoping to encourage more couples to ‘tie the knot’ in the local parish church at Quedgeley.

The Rector and Parochial Church Council have been looking at ways to increase the number of weddings taking place at the quaint 12th century church of Saint James’, Quedgeley.

One idea they are pursuing is a Wedding Fayre.

This will take place on Sunday, March 24, in Quedgeley Community Centre from 11am-4pm.

Admission is free.

Fr. John said: "We were looking at how we could increase the number of weddings at Saint James. Unlike some other churches up and down the country we do have a church hall, so can’t offer an inclusive wedding package as such. It seemed logical that if we wished to advertise what the church has to offer, then wedding suppliers may wish to do likewise. I thought a Wedding Fayre would be a great idea and bring in some cash for church funds.

"We’ve got a variety of suppliers from cake makers, hairdressing, photography, bridal wear, everything to make the wedding day extra special. Some of the suppliers are local, based in Quedgeley. Refreshments will also be available. I’m looking forward to the event being well supported."

The cost of a C/E church wedding is around £500.
