‘LEGEND’ supermarket manager Bob Martin has retired from the Co-op supermarket in Nailsworth after 42 years of service.

Bob, from Stonehouse, completed his final shift at the store yesterday (Thursday).

As a parting gift, the Cherry and Whites fan was presented with a framed Gloucester Rugby shirt, signed by player Jonny May.

There was also a bit of a do in the shop, with a buffet, balloons and a special rugby themed cake.

Speaking on behalf of everyone at the store, staff member Gosia Michael said: "He was really great boss and he will be greatly missed by all his team."

Bob, who has managed the Co-op branch in Old Market for the last 17 years, joined the high street retailer four decades ago, starting out at the Cheltenham branch.

Over the years he has worked in many different roles within the business.

An online post about Bob's retirement was flooded with kind comments and best wishes for the future.

One person wrote: "Happy retirement Bob, a true gentleman of the town."

Another said: "He’s such a lovely man, always happy!"

And one person commented: "Coop won’t be the same without you!"

And one comment read simply: "LEGEND".
