THIS year's Chalfest has been cancelled.

Organisers of the popular event had announced earlier this year that the music festival on July 16 and 17 was due to go ahead in line with plans to ease all restrictions on June 21.

But following a decision to delay ‘freedom day’ by four weeks due to rising cases of the Delta variant of the virus, organisers have now made the difficult decision to cancel.

In a statement, the event's organisers said: "Our worst fears about Chalfest 2021 are now confirmed and we are absolutely gutted.

"Despite all our hard work under extremely challenging conditions, we have no choice other than to move Chalfest (yet again) to 2022.

"We would like to thank all our traders, production teams and sponsors who yet again have agreed to carry their support over as well as all the wonderful volunteers who have really pulled out all the stops to make 2021 happen.

"We were ready for one heck of a party, we know you were too.

"We know that Boris Johnson says that he may review this after two weeks but that is simply a risk too far for us at Chalfest as that would mean us having to pay out tens of thousands of pounds on infrastructure that we would lose should the event not go ahead."

The volunteer led community festival, held at Chalford Hill, has been moved to July 22 and 23 in 2022.
