DARREN Jones is expected to pen a deal at his hometown team Newport County after terminating his Forest Green contract by mutual consent.
Jones, who returned to The New Lawn in the summer, revealed the news on Twitter and is now set to return to Rodney Parade on Monday after being spotted in the stands at Newport's match on Saturday.
His move from Newport to Rovers in the summer sparked a war of words between Forest Green chairman Dale Vince and Terry Butcher after the then Newport boss accussed Rovers of waiving the cheque book at Jones.
Vince publicly demanded an apology from Butcher, insisting the Exiles boss was wrong to claim Jones’ return to the New Lawn was financially driven.
Butcher said the club simply couldn’t match the financial package on offer from Forest Green.
The 32-year-old leaves Forest Green as the club's third highest ever appearance maker in the fifth tier.
