FOREST GREEN have made Chris Clements their ninth signing of the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old joins Rovers from fellow League Two side Grimsby Town until the end of the season having spent the first half of the season on loan at National League outfit Barrow.

After signing for the Mariners from Mansfield back last January, Clements went on to make 16 appearances in League Two, scoring four times.

However, he found playing time this season limited under boss Russell Slade and is relishing the chance of joining Rovers and getting more minutes under his belt.

He said: “With it being deadline day, there were a few bumps in the road and a few stops and starts but I’m really excited to get it over the line,”

“I’m hoping to get game time and help Forest Green get out of the position that they find themselves in.

“They play good football, I know players like Gavin Gunning and Lee Collins, really good players who shouldn’t be where they are in the league and I am here to help out.

“I think the way Forest Green try to play you are always going to be in games and you’re always going to score goals.

“I would say I’m a technical midfielder who occasionally chips in with a few goals. I think I got nine or 10 last season from midfield.

“I’m comfortable on the ball, technically good and can hopefully score a few goals.”

A product of the Crewe Alexandra academy, Clements moved to non-league Hednesford having made just one FA Cup appearance before moving to Mansfield Town a year later.

He went on to score 10 goals in 132 league appearances for the Stags before moving to Blundell Park for an undisclosed fee.

Manager Mark Cooper said he was pleased to secure Clements’ services and believes his experience will prove vital in the coming months.

“He is a good midfield player,” said The New Lawn boss.

“He’s very good with the ball, aggressive and played a lot of games in League Two so knows what it is all about.

“He has done well in the league and played in a successful team at Mansfield and will be another good addition in midfield for us.

“He didn’t fit into the way Grimsby play and we have been able to get him.”

Clements won’t be available for tonight’s game with Exeter City.
