Stroud 34

Chosen Hill 0

STROUD'S Tribute Western Counties North division match against Chosen Hill was abandoned during the second half because of fighting.

Stroud were leading at the break, but an incident occurred, which forced the referee to call the game off.

A spokesman for the South West RFU stated: "All I understand is that the referee called a halt to it on 45 minutes because of fighting.

"I've suggested the result should stand because Stroud were so far ahead at the time and I don't think either team will want a replay, but that's ultimately not my decision."

A Stroud club spokesman confirmed the game was abandoned and said: " Within the first few minutes of the second half a breakdown in discipline culminated in an unfortunate touchline incident that persuaded the referee to abandon the game."

Earlier, the opening period of play saw Stroud rampaging through Chosen Hill ranks and after only three minutes Kurtis Herbert was able to crash over for a try wide out, which he was unable to convert.

Stung by this early setback, Chosen Hill came back with some spirited attacks that brought the best out of the home team defence but, from a counter-attack, back-row forward Regan Herbert crossed for the game’s second try with brother Kurtis making the conversion.

Stroud then began to dominate play and from some neat inter-passing between forwards and backs, a swift pass from Jordan Phipps saw Dan Gordon extend the lead with another try converted by Kurtis Herbert.

With the pack now dominating, Stroud began some great interplay resulting in Sam Leeworthy scoring two unconverted tries and Kurtis Herbert to finish the half with another fine try and register the score 34 points to nil on the half-time whistle.
