YATE TOWN made it nine games unbeaten in the league as they beat Highworth Town 3-0 at the Jelf Stadium, writes Tom Mason.

First half goals from Adam Price and a brace from Olly Mehew set the Bluebells on their way to another big three points at the top of the table.

The result leaves Yate level on points with Backfield and Langley, although the Bluebells do have a game in hand.

Yate boss Paul Britton made one change from the win in the FA Trophy over Blackfield and Langley last weekend as Jack Twyman came in for Josh Cann.

The warning signs were there for the visitors very early on and they were fortunate to remain with eleven men on the pitch as Highworth full-back Matty Grabe brought down Mehew just outside the box, earning a caution.

Just a matter of minutes later Yate had a deserved lead as Mehew was played through on goal after a brilliant flick by David Sims-Burgess before, Mehew calmly slotted into the bottom left corner.

It took just six minutes for the hosts to double their lead, an audacious strike from midfielder Adam Price, 20 yards from goal on the half-volley, which he placed perfectly in the top corner.

By the half-hour mark it was three and in truth game over, it was again Mehew who was causing the visitors all sorts of problems and a well worked team goal, which involved midfielder Sam Kamara ended in a brilliant finish from Mehew.

The Bluebells thought they had a fourth shortly after only for it to be disallowed for a push by Twyman at the back post after he headed in Mayson Evans' pinpoint cross.

One disappointment for the hosts came late on in the opening half as Sims-Burgess had to be replaced following a hamstring injury, Ben Brooks the man replacing him.

The visitors had some half chances in the second-half with full-back Aaron Nesbeth testing Lewis Thomas, but he was more than up to the challenge making a couple of strong saves as the match reached its conclusion.

Nick Peare was introduced in the second half and he nearly added to the scoring only to see his superb strike hit the post and go out for a goal kick as Yate pressed for a fourth.

The hosts saw the game out in a professional manner and earned another important three points as they go in search of promotion.

Next up for the Bluebells is a visit from Dorchester Town in the FA Trophy 1st round, next Saturday.
