YOUNG Charfield jockey Harvey Barfoot-Saunt has taken the Championship title for this year’s PC Pony Racing Series, riding his pony Shoot the Stars.

Harvey, 11, has been a member of Berkeley Hunt South PC for the last seven years.

The pony racing series is designed to give the opportunity for all Pony Club members to compete with their ponies on real racecourses.

The series holds eight meetings at the top courses including Cheltenham and Ascott. Riders must be between 9 and 15 years old and have a pony 148cm or under.

Pony racing has proven to be the starting point for many of todays top professional jockeys including Sam Twiston-Davies, Sean and James Bowen and Tom Marquand.

Of his Harvey said: “It was very close there was only two points between the first four places.

“My pony is only 5 and its unbelievable to have done so well in her first year.”
