Gloucestershire Under-18's received high praise from their manager Calum Wands as they booked their place in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.

The side were drew against Kent in the second round and qualified after a memorable 6-2 victory at Maidstone United's Gallagher Stadium.

Semi-finalists last season, Gloucestershire struck first in the match.

Centre-back Sam Larkins came up for the corner and planted a towering header from Jay Murray's ball in to the back of the net.

Shortly before the break, the Glos boys doubled their lead. Central midfielder Cameron Rees drilled a sweet 20-yard shot into the net after Andre Frecklington had done well out wide.

The two sides went in at half-time with score at 2-0, however it didn't take long for Kent to get back into the game.

Five minutes in to the second half George Robinson finished to make it 2-1.

In the 55th minute, Kent drew level.

Baily Sinnock headed the ball goalwards, the referee adjudged the ball to have crossed the line despite protests from the Glos players.

George Porter then inadvertently scored an own-goal as he was hit by the ball from a Larkin miscued strike to put Glos back ahead in the match.

They then restored their two goal lead as Murray took the entire Kent back four and set the ball up perfectly for Freckleton to smash the ball in to the goal from just inside the box.

Bristol City legend Scott Murray's son, Jay then scored a fifth goal as he rounded the keeper after a driving run into the box.

Substitute Miguel Freckleton then completed the scoring after receiving a pass from his brother Andre and swivelling to fire in to the bottom corner of the net.

After the match manager Wands was ecstatic with the performance of his side: "It was a really professional and strong performance by all the lads against a very physical Kent team who were clearly intent on making life as difficult as possible for us.

“The Kent camp must have watched highlights or done some other research on us.

“Credit to our boys, they didn’t get embroiled in anything untoward and kept their discipline and heads in the heat of what was a battle at times.”

Gloucestershire now play Birmingham in Almondsbury on December 8.
