Malmesbury’s young racing driver Louis Harvey took another step forward with his aspirations of making it all the way to Formula One when he was presented with the prestigious Nigel Mansell Trophy.

Harvey, 14,was accompanied by his family and some of his sponsors at the Rissington Kart Club annual awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Tewksbury.

He was there to support the club and his fellow drivers despite having spent most of 2018 competing in the British Superone Series in which he came seventh.

Harvey has continued to attend the Rissington Kart Club meetings where possible as its one of his favourite tracks, a great club and one he has raced at since the age of eight.

The Nigel Mansell Trophy was given to Rissington Kart Club by Mansell for them to award to the most promising driver of the year.

Presenting the award was club secretary Debbie Mayow who said before presenting the award: "This award is given to a driver with good results, a first-class overall appearance at all times, consistent mannerisms and attitude towards others, not only at Rissington but all other circuits they attend.

"They should be polite, have a professional approach to racing and understand they cannot always win.

This driver’s determination and growth within the sport has out shone so many others who have won this year."

After receiving the award, a delighted Harvey said: “I was not expecting an award and this was a total surprise, its great to be recognised for more than just driving.

"Not letting things get you down when you have had a bad race result isn’t easy. I am so glad that Klaassen Motorsport and some of my sponsors were here to see me get this trophy, especially Chris Brazil from Ideal Displays, Swindon who has supported me for many years and David Mitchell, the owner of the brand consultancy dna-rB Ltd who has mentored me in all aspects of being a professional driver.

"I would also like to thank Klaassen Motorsport for their amazing support this year."

Mitchell, owner of consultancy dna-rB added: "It’s amazing for Louis to get this award.

"He’s really developed as a driver on and off the track in the last two seasons and listens to the advice he’s given.

"I’m very proud to be one of his sponsors."

Brazil, who started sponsoring Louis when he was only eight said: “I have seen this young man go from strength to strength with his racing and we sincerely hope we can help him achieve all his ambitions."
