Thornbury and Yate Hockey were in action at the weekend as they played each other.

The Thorns, who were visiting a stubborn Yate 3rds side were well beaten.

The home side got off to a dream start scoring within 2 minutes through Tash Child.

Thornbury found it difficult to halt the Yate attacks and Sara Newman in goal pulled off a number of saves whilst a few shots went narrowly wide. Despite the majority of pressure the home side failed to add to their goal tally in the first period.

Carys Allen and Megan McLachlan were kept busy at the back along with Elaine Arnold , however sometimes they made life difficult for themselves by gifting the home side possession.

Thornbury started brightly in the second half with Jess Wilson and Kate Wilson along with captain Nicky Bruce constructing a number of pleasing interchanges but the sight of goal appeared to frighten the visiting attackers.

The home side gradually regained control and scored 4 further goals, two from the experienced Alex Bessex and one each from Charlie Hollowood and Laura Hewlett put the game beyond the visitors for 5-0.

Thornbury 2nds lost to North Wilts 2nds 2-4 at the weekend where Yate men's A team beat Royal Wotton Bassett, Anthony Browne, Rob Childs and Matt Robins all scored to secure the win.

Robbins was then awarded man of the match after a solid performance that saw him drive his side forward on numerous occasions.

The Ladies 2nd team drew against Newent at home.

The Yate men's 1st team went down 7-3 to Swansea away whilst the Ladies 1st team travelled to Taunton Vale to go down in a scrappy 4-0 defeat.
